Marchman could be described as a singing storyteller who has a gift for weaving his own unique sound with fascinating stories that quickly draw people in. His latest album is titled Desperate Man, but this up and coming singer/songwriter's doing quite well for himself.
Houston Marchman, Texas music artist, spent six long years trying to catch a break on Nashville's Music Row only to realize that there's no place like home.
"I think the culture in the state that runs from Oklahoma City to Corpus is about being yourself and if you can't do that then what's the point," Marchman asked.
So he packed up and headed back to Texas, and his career's been on an upward path ever since.
"You know you try and write and be true to the craft and you hone what you do to try to maintain as having something to say than just trying to be something famous," Marchman said.
"I'll write about some pretty strange events sometimes," Marchman said.
One is about an infamous relative well-known in Texas history.
"I've got this dead uncle that shot a lot of people in the late 1800's and his name's Bill Longly," Marchman said. "I grew up with stories about him."
"It's a lot of fun to be able to go play independent, original music with guys and kind of share that. A lot of people don't get the chance, it's a blessing," Marchman said.
Houston will be in the area on August 13 with his Contraband to perform at the River Road Ice House in New Braunfels.

Houston Honored by DIY Spotlight Houston's latest album, Desperate Man, has been chosen by the editors as one of the top 12 independent releases featured in their last eight issues.
The magazine editors evaluated the 72 releases chosen for Top 12 DIY review, and picked their favorite of those 12. They are now in the process of interviewing each of those 12 (two songwriters per issue).
Once they've interviewed all 12 artists, they will release a Performing Songwriter compilation featuring one song from each of the 12 artists selected. They expect the CD to be available to readers, radio and venue contacts in the fall of 2004. It is projected that Houston will be spotlighted in the July/August issue.
